||Tec Centro: a bilingual bridge to a strong career.|
|Despite increased opportunities, minorities are still not well represented in “middle wage” jobs that need at least some technical training. A major stumbling block is language deficits.
SACA’s innovative approach is to build a bilingual bridge with short introductory courses for high demand industries like health care, manufacturing, construction and business office administration. This is the mission of Tec Centro - good paying jobs like certified nursing or dental assistant, welder, machine operator, carpenter, electrician or administrative assistant.
Basic industry skill training combines with workforce language so that when students finish their training they can perform the job in English. When they are ready, students can start an entry-level job or move up to local vo-tech schools for advanced training.
SACA Development Corporation acquired an ideal 16,000 square foot vacant building (former cabinet making plant) next to SACA’s administrative offices. This is the site of Tec Centro – a project that promises to transform blight into opportunity.
