SACA provides services for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C & sexually-transmitted infections. | |
The HIV/AIDS battle has not
been won. Hepatitis C and Sexually
Transmitted Infectionscontinue. In this fight SACA has saved many lives and is a major partner with public health agencies. SACA provides free confidential counseling, testing and outreach. A Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs) Treatment Clinic has been added to serve uninsured people with syphilis, gonorrhea or chlamydia. SACA/Nuestra Clinica Education & Prevention Services (NCEPS) has been providing services for over 15 years to the Lancaster County Community. The program began providing Education and Prevention services, community outreach, case management, counseling and testing for HIV to the school districts in Lancaster County, Shelters, Drug and Alcohol inpatient/outpatient facilities, churches, youth centers and even in the comfort setting of individual homes. We later expanded to provide additional Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs) testing such as hepatitis C, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Syphilis by collecting blood and urine specimen. As our STI's positivity rate increased, the program faced numerous challenges regarding proper and urgent treatment for these individuals. SACA/Nuestra Clinica, Family Health Council of South Central PA (FHCCP) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) united in a great effort to provide a medical physician that would be willing to see and treat our positive cases free and confidential. On March 11, 2010 SACA/Nuestra Clinica had its kick-off with treating those who were positive with an STI and their partners. We are so motivated not only to treat those infected but also their partners. We have made a great emphasis in connecting with our clients to assure their confidence and are willing to go an extra mile to treat their partners. We are currently celebrating our First Year Anniversary of our Treatment Clinic. For the past year we have tested 959 individuals for Chlamydia with a nine (9) percent of positivity rate and 958 individuals for Gonorrhea for a 1.5% of positivity rate as of February 2011. As we treat those infected with a Sexually Transmitted Infection we highly encourage our clients to bring in their partners for treatment to reduce the possibility of infection and/or re-infection. Thanks to the staff at Nuestra Clinica Education & Prevention Services: Nelsa Vasquez, Prevention Specialist/Educator; Luis Reyes, Community Education Specialist; Evelyn Nieves, Community Outreach Worker and our Physician Dr. John Bart. We have been able to dedicate evening hours to reach those who need these services. Sandra Valdez A word from the Doctor:
Spring is a great time to enjoy the outdoors as well as a time of “awakening” in sexual feelings. Stop by, meet our staff, and talk to us about your sexual concerns. We’re here to listen. Dr. Bart |
